Addressing backache and the roots of SPD in relation to spinal and pelvic alignment

Review of Pelvic Anatomy and adapted yoga moves  for promoting optimal spinal alignment at crucial times during pregnancy (for foetal position and nurturing, for  preventing or alleviating sacro-iliac pain, in preparation for birth). Working with ligaments, muscles and connective tissue  using centring,deep breathing and relaxed stretching to create tone and elasticity in the pelvis.  Demonstrations with clear teaching points.

Positive practices for alleviating SPD 

‘Review of transitions up and down with detailed teaching points
Yoga to facilitate walking and going up or down stairs for SPD sufferers
Involving pelvic floor muscles to bring the symphysis pubis together in specific yoga poses
Pelvic ‘Micro-movements’ for SPD sufferers, on the floor and on chairs

Gentle standing twists and twists to wall for SPD sufferers

Discussion of various forms of teaching prenatal relaxation among course participants
Patterns of integration of maternal experiences, using 'Zone' visualisation
Breathing  components of ‘instant relaxation’, ‘moving in and out of relaxation’ and ‘accessing deep rest’

Micromovements to facilitate 'light' births 

New teaching points for best positions during the first and second stages of labour (how to teach these to women and to couples)
Recap on birthing breathing using visual aids for understanding the relation between thoracic and pelvic diaphragms. 
Review of 'reverse breathing' as a key practice for creating 'core strength' without strain immediately after birth.
Tips for teaching the use of sound and voiced breath in prenatal classes in preparation for birth: experiential understanding of the point that 'breath and sound open the birth passage' ahead of baby, for baby to follow smoothly.  Teaching points for couples' birth preparation classes.
