Birthlight training process

Our priorities

  • Hands-on, safe effective teaching practice and relevant well assimilated theory
  • Evaluation of teaching capability through the completion of worksheets, case-studies and teaching observations
  • Access to course tutors through course facebook groups (closed groups)
  • Course participants’ interaction via course forums
  • Trainee insurance schemes

Time-scale

  • A period of supervised self practice (6 weeks to 6 months) after courses

Our expectations

  • We recognise and value the individuality and personal development of each teacher in training
  • We expect birthlight teachers to address the 'uniqueness' of each mother, baby and parent-infant pair
  • We aim to create 'circles of friendship’ in our training courses and encourage teachers to promote friendly classes

Best practice

The Guide to Birthlight takes each new member through the steps of accessing and taking part in the birthlight network, as well as outlining foundations for best practice. All Certified Birthlight Teachers must sign a membership declaration that implies their willingness to abide by our Code of Ethics and Best Practice. Course participants without insurance are offered a one year trainee insurance option to complete their case studies.
