Birthlight yoga for maternity training in Sydney

An enthusiastic group of midwives were welcomed by tutors Julia Gibson and Helen Macnair, some of whom had flown in from South Australia, Victoria and Northern New South Wales especially for the course.  It was the fourth training of its kind in Australia the last three being led by Wendy Gadsden for whom Helen and Julia had assisted in April 2015.

The venue, Yoga Pavilion, was designed by a Japanese architect with the principle of light flowing in from two sides, this was most fortunate as Sydney was hit by a “catastrophic” storm the first night of the course, resulting in no power for twenty six hours. Students valiantly found their way to the studio despite the adverse weather.  Much joy and laughter was shared as Birthlight nuggets were revealed and on completion of the training, participants headed off to complete their course work in public and private hospitals and a few in independent settings around the country.

Helen and Julia reflected on the value of co-tutoring and look forward to welcoming people back for level 2 in April 2016.

Birthlight Yoga for Maternity training.

April was an exciting month for Birthlight in the Antipodes.

The course which is Midwifery orientated; aims to improve a woman’s awareness of pregnancy, and offer satisfaction with their own experience of labour and birth. Once a pregnancy has been confirmed a woman wants to feel that she is looking after herself and her child safely, and this course reflects safe teaching. The Australian Midwives have been allocated 18 MidPLUS points was a great accolade to the professionalism of the course.

Level 1 in Sydney was taught by Julia Gibson and Helen Macnair, two experienced Birthlight Yoga tutors, who stepped in due to ill health on my part, of which I was really grateful, and Level 2 was completed on Skype to my other enthusiastic Midwives in Australia. “ Birthlight Downunder” the closed facebook group is a great medium for exchanging ideas and asking questions.

The courses in Auckland New Zealand had to be unfortunately cancelled for this year, but hoping to offer both Levels next year.

My Thanks to the other Birthlight Tutors and friends of Birthlight who have supported me over the last 10 months…… a true family
