Dr Amali Lokugamage shortlisted for a NHS London Leadership Award

Dr Amali Lokugamage, Birthlight Trustee, has been shortlisted for a NHS London Leadership Award under the “inclusivity” category for her work in humanising birth.

Her work includes at a hospital level a patient experience project called Footprints of Birth which hopes to evoke empathy, compassion and understanding of human rights in healthcare in health professionals; being on the steering committee for a Compassion conference at her hospital; and completing training with the Institute of Leadership and Management as a Human Rights in Healthcare Champion. At a national level she will be delivering her lecture on “obstetric violence”  at the annual professional development conference at the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists in November 2014; co-authoring a paper on evidence based medicine and collaborative decision making; contributing to a book on Compassion in Maternity care “The Roar Behind the Silence: Why kindness, compassion and respect matter in maternity care”




At an international level she lectures on humanising and normalising birth, is on the Advisory board for Human Rights in Childbirth; and on the Board of Directors of the International Mother-Baby Childbirth Organization.
