Lesley Page Ph.D., Honored for Excellence in Midwifery Education and Advocacy

Professor Lesley Page, Patron of Birthlight, recently stepped down from the presidency of the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) after a five year term. Birthlight would like to wish Lesley a productive but restful retirement.

Lesley has gained recognition for her special accomplishments, being included in Marquis Who's Who.

Lesley Page, Ph.D., Honored for Excellence in Midwifery Education and Advocacy

Françoise first met Lesley when she was a midwife near Oxford in 1990 and she was our keynote speaker in the first Birthlight event held in Homerton College, Cambridge in 1994 'Midwives Meet Mothers', following the Changing Childbirth report. She also presented at our 2006 'Visions of Infant Joy' Conference and our 2014 'Womb to World' Conference.

When asked what she hope her legacy will be? she repied “I would like to see every woman have the possibility of a midwife she can get to know over time. And I have another agenda: I would like midwives to know the joy of birth, not just the fear – because there is so much fear around at the moment. To me, it’s the most meaningful work you can imagine doing.”
