No Borders (hard or soft) in Birthlight

As the amazing family of Birthlight teachers expands across the world and gently grows like the great Oak, I had the pleasure of meeting up with two wonderful teachers in Aquanatal Yoga on the latest training course in Northern Ireland run by Sally Lomas.

Setting down Birthlight roots in the North and South of the border will not only strengthen the support ethos for Birthlight for Aquanatal but also help the family of teachers feet connected and supported on a more local level.

We came up with the 'Golden Irish Triangle' !!!

From Ashling Lynch based in Galway, Zuzana Hruz Day based in Co. Louth and myself (Gill Bann) in Lisburn and Belfast. Teaching  Aquanatal Yoga, Baby Swim, Pregnancy Yoga and Baby Yoga. We hope to expand with the Birthlight training and new ideas (watch this triangle space). Promoting the sensitive approach to pregnancy, birth and beyond. With a guidance from Françoise Freedman

As the Birthlight philosophy teaches us to promote the greater enjoyment of pregnancy, birth and babies for both parents and newborns. To teach with awareness and respect for the individual and to build confidence and trust.

As ambassadors of Birthlight in the North and South of Ireland the gentle birthing and parenting of mothers and babies sets the tone for a non violent upbringing for the future children of Ireland. The promotion of greater peace in the world.

We welcome more like minded people to join.

I have been offering water courses for parents and children with Swimtastic for over three years now, and progressing into pregnancy classes was a natural progression for me. I found the Birthlight course in the UK, and I am so happy I did it. The course was an excellent training opportunity and it enabled me to come home to Ireland and start my own classes.

I’m really new to the aqua natal world, but I’m loving it. It’s lovely to meet all the new mammies to be, and to be able to ‘help’ them and also to see their enjoyment during the classes. I just finished my first block of classes and the feedback from the ladies is just amazing, which makes me even happier. We are planning our new term at the end of August in four different locations in Tullamore, Kilkenny, Carlow and Portlaoise.

Thank You Birthlight!

I’m a mother of two young boys and have always loved the water and the feel good factor of just being in water. During my own pregnancies I suffered with back and pelvic pain and always found being in water, whether to stretch, swim or just relax, provided great relief. I did some research on ways to more comfortably stretch and relax in water and Birthlight’s Aqua Yoga perfectly combined the two and the rest as they say is history!

I work part time as a swim teacher and coach with adults and children both in the pool and the open water. I was very fortunate to meet Gill Bann, a wonderful aqua yoga teacher in Northern Ireland and now Birthlight tutor. Gill took me under her wing and provided such great support and guidance both at the start and during my Birthlight teaching journey.

Now I’m delighted to be able to pass on the wonderful benefits of aqua yoga to expectant mums in Galway, Ireland. I operate from a beautiful spa like hydro pool at Ocean Fitness in the Salthill Hotel on the Atlantic Coast. Our Irish Birthlight network is small but growing and it’s lovely to meet and learn from other teachers. I’ve received such lovely feedback from the mums who attend my classes. They love the buoyancy and relief they get from the warm water, they enjoy the time to tune in with their growing babies and they love to meet other expectant mums and also have a few laughs along the way!

I’ve just completed my Aqua Yoga Level 2 so am very excited to launch new Aqua Yoga Postnatal classes this September. And who knows from here where my Birthlight journey will take me. It has been such a positive and life changing experience so far I’m very much looking forward to seeing what lies ahead.
