Pregnancy birth and postnatal yoga training

Birthlight offers original adaptations of classic yoga practices for women from pre-conception through to nine months after childbirth. We strive to enable women to give birth with minimal intervention but we acknowledge that this may not be possible for all women. What we value most is the physical and emotional nurturing of pregnant women so that they can approach labour and birth with calm confidence, energised from a vibrant core strength and with full use of their breathing capacity. ‘Mothering the mother’ is an essential foundation for a woman’s ability to nurture her baby.

Part 1 and 2 Perinatal yoga (pregnancy yoga and yoga for birth) and Postnatal yoga together create a comprehensive training of 8 days intensive, in 6+2 days plus home study hours that satisfy the contact requirements for Yoga Alliance.

Our training school has met the stringent requirements set by Yoga Alliance Professionals, demonstrating that our courses are of the highest standard and that our graduates, may use the title 'Registered Yoga Teacher' RYT as a sign of quality training.

Birthlight certified teachers who have fully completed the Perinatal Yoga Diploma and the Postnatal Yoga short course become qualified as Birthlight Practitioners in Perinatal Yoga. Birthlight has been a pioneer course provider in Yoga for Pregnancy and Birth in the UK and internationally since the 1990s.

As further training and CPD, Perinatal Yoga teachers may be interested in the Birth Preparation course and the PBAC (Postive Birth after Cesarean) course. Within the Well Woman course area there is also the Fertility Yoga and Yoga for Pelvic Health courses.

The Birthlight Perinatal Yoga Diploma has been approved for teachers’ registration with CNHC (Complementary and Natural Health Council). Diploma holders can register through Birthlight.

Birthlight Yoga for Maternity Health programme has been specifically designed for Midwives, Doctors, Childbirth Educators, Obstetric Physiotherapists, Maternity Support Workers and Doulas who have an experience of Yoga. ‘Birthlight Yoga’ has been developed in collaboration with midwives over 20 years. The course was inspired by Amazonian rainforest midwives and by women using their breath to ‘exhale push’ without strain irrespective of previous experience of yoga or levels of fitness.

The course is in full conformity with NICE guidelines for normalising birth (2008).

Birthlight Yoga for Maternity Level 2 has been allocated 15 elective educational points from the New Zealand Midwifery Council. It has also been awarded 18 MidPLUS points from the Australian College of Midwives Professional Development Committee.
