Birthlight tutor - Helen Macnair

birthlight yoga for maternity professionals practionerhelen macnair

Helen found yoga in 1990 and started teaching in London in 1997.  Mother of three gorgeous children she has been living in Australia with her family since 2006.

Helen’s practice and yoga training are a mixture of styles inspired by her life experiences: from Iyengar yoga and then Astanga yoga in her 20’s, pre natal and post natal yoga with the birth of her children and then kid’s yoga as they have grown.

Helen originally trained with the International Therapy Education Council as a massage therapist and later studied northern and southern style traditional Thai massage. After completing her degree in London in 1994, she spent a year in India where she studied yoga and Ayurveda.

During her first pregnancy, Helen began her journey into the world of yoga for pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.  In 2005 she trained as a Doula with Michel Odent, the French Obstetrician, and completed her Birthlight pregnancy and post natal yoga diploma with Francoise Freedman.  She now teaches in her Yoga studio on the Central Coast, works with Birthlight as a pregnancy yoga teacher trainer and ante natal educator and is a registered senior teacher with Yoga Australia.

Helen is passionate about empowering women with information, yoga and the sense that they are perfectly designed and capable of giving birth and being a mother. ‘My teaching style has been greatly influenced by the Birthlight approach and has evolved from teaching prenatal and postnatal yoga to so many beautiful women over the years, from my own exploration of yoga during pregnancy and from my experience of three very different births.’
